Celebrating DIFFA Out East

“I’ve been a dedicated supporter of DIFFA from the first day we opened our doors five years ago. I love to entertain and all the more so for a worthy cause.” – West Chin, Owner of West Out East / West NYC Home

“Together at DIFFA we’re Making A DIFFArence!” – Cindy Allen, Editor in Chief of Interior Design

When asked why a fifth year of DIFFA OUT EAST in an interview with BCD, Dawn Roberson, DIFFA Executive Director stated that, “AIDS is not over! Many have the misconception that it’s something of the past. But, there’s still so many people that need our help.”

This was definitely a unanimous consensus amongst the host and participants at the DIFFA OUT EAST 5th annual design auction Saturday July 24th, 2018 at West Out East in East Hampton. As a member of the CAB (Community Advisory Board) at Callen Lorde, I can truly testify to the continued, and critical need of funding. Not only did we get to “make a DIFFArence” but we also made new friends and supporters for DIFFA. Many thanks to all of the designers that supported. Here are my “Fab Five Favs“:

1. Giulia Rocker

Rocking horse made from a single block of aromatic cedar. Sculptured to create a dynamic shape, embellished with a natural leather-covered handle. Sustainability, design, research, social awareness and cultural promotion becomes a fundamental part of Riva 1920’s activity.

2. Slumber Pouf

Knitted cover in a blend of merino wool, cotton and kid mohair with synthetic bead filling inside 100% polyester fabric casing. Respect for nature and the diversity of raw materials which this world provides us with: Casalis makes products with a long life span and with a timeless design.

 3. Bubble Chandelier

Available with white, nickel, brass, or black canopy with polished nickel, satin brass, or white hardware and natural cotton cord or leather cord in white, cream, natural, henna, dark brown, or black. Custom leather colors or glass globes with a gilded gold or silver finish are also available.

4. Insula Coffee Table

At Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik, they strive to create furniture that lasts. Not just in terms of holding up to everyday use but also in its continued ability to enhance our surroundings and open our eyes to new ways of seeing and producing furniture. This passion for design and quality craftsmanship is characteristic of Erik Jørgensen Møbelfabrik.

5. Juliet Vessels

Made of borosilicate glass, these tabletop glass vessels reference the aesthetics of a science lab but are then finished with a hand-turned solid brass stopper, giving the objects a new and unfamiliar feel. Each stopper is unique to the different glass shapes. Anna Karlin believes strongly that all the disciplines contribute wonderfully to each other and therefore no one area must remain untouched.
