15 Jun Residence Inn by Jackie Arena Interiors

attachmentThis featured project comes from a Residence Inn in Secaucus, New Jersey and features a custom Stacy Garcia carpet for Brintons commissioned by Durkan. We spoke with Designer Whitney Grubb (shown here) and Jacki Arena from Jacki Arena Interiors about this project. This hotel interior features office spaces, a bar area and much more.

The inspiration for this project came directly from Stacy Garcia’s Nouveau Boho! This collection is inspired by global cultures, fashion and journey. The energetic and detailed designs were perfect for the hotel interior. The patterns and nomadic spirit of Nouveau Boho bring inspiration and natural touches that were wanted by the designers. The hotel also features Hana by Stacy Garcia for York Wallcovering in the fitness center and public area as an accent to the carpet.

Stacy Garcia: Why did you choose these Stacy Garcia patterns for this project?

Whitney Grubb: The palette from the collection was perfect for what we envisioned for New Jersey. The scale, movement and layering of the patterns and colors were complex and striking. Each pattern had so much detail and interest. We had Durkan translate it into printed carpet per owner’s request for printed carpet. We couldn’t think about changing carpet design at that point!of inspiration. Be it nature, important landmarks and buildings or other talented designers of past and present.

SG: Where do you look for design inspiration?

JA: It used to be the carpets, but now that carpets are becoming less pattern and more texture, we find our inspiration from various internet sources, social media, Pinterest and from nature.

SG: What’s your favorite space to design? How do you make it stand out?

JA: Hotel lobbies. That is where our clients and the brands allow us to be more creative and typically have higher budgets. It can be through pops of color, a focal element, or unique art piece. It used to be through the carpets before textures were in demand.

SG: What trends are you seeing in interior design?

JA: More textures and less pattern and prints in carpets and fabrics. More large graphics and less framed artwork.

SG: How would you describe your personal design style?

JA: Crisp, clean and classic. A good balance between geometric and organic.
