The 7th BDNY Boutique Design Trade Fair happened on November 13th and 14th in NYC at the Javits Center. It was Creative Designer, Patti Carpenter‘s, first visit to the leading hospitality design industry trade fair. We asked her to give us a color report back!

BDNY Broadening the Boundaries of Boutique Design

Chock-full of creative collaborations, confident color and exceptional product offerings, I was like a kid in a candy store. As a Global Trend Ambassador I am a style sentinel, relentlessly on the prowl for what’s
new and what’s next. Enthusiastically taking the temperature of the rhyme and reason
for the current Color and Trend directions.

Color was everywhere and since this show’s focus is supplying hotels, restaurants, spas, clubs, and cruise ships, I could not help but ponder how welcoming the world of travel and hospitality will appear in the coming seasons. So many lively and colorful options for everything from accessories to artwork, from carpets to closets, and from lighting to luxury leather. Apparently, as we seek to have our collective moods manipulated following our recent political season, much of this color will certainly be part of each creative design conversation.

Intrepid and individualistic prints and patterning turned to the artistic interpretations of graphics and graffiti and were punctuated by fantasy florals. Tangible textures were on display with structured and substantial surfaces. Materials were maneuvered by the hands of master craftspeople and finishes flourished in fabrics and fur, worked woods, modern metals and LED lighting.

Tones of teal are coolly confident

Sultry Oranges
Scorched and sultry, oranges imbue products with optimism

Lemon Drop
Sun spot yellows lift our spirits with a tart tangy shot

Mint Moment
Muted mints in matte textiles are chic and contemporary

Mercury Rising
Mine this metal color and cast it in a major role.

Citrus and Gray
Citrusy greens gravitate towards gray as the neutral that grounds them

Radiant Rainbows
Perfectly pitched to offer optimism after a somber period

Good Wood
Clean and confident, these woods show off their inherent grain with minimal finishes

A Different Angle
Manipulated bases support a variety of materials

Leather Bar
Smooth Leather emerges in sophisticated seating

Bubbling Up
Tiny bubbles create light play inside hand made glass lighting

Tufted Textures
Stitched style creates tufted textures in seating

Modern Mirrors
We seek deeper reflection in modern mirrors
