Introducing Stacy’s new weekly live series, Design Uncensored  where every Wednesday at 5pm ET Stacy hosts design and color experts in different industries for an inspiring trend discussion. On the first episode, Stacy hosts a conversation with interior designer, Drew McGukin known for his exquisite residential design projects.

Below are 3 key takeaways from the discussion.

1. Ask Questions

As this pandemic makes way, the concept of home is exploding and people are beginning to invest more time and money into their space. Most importantly, they want to make it feel “real” and this is where we have to ask the question, “What does home mean to you?”. Asking  your clients about their story, how they live and just tapping into their personalities will help you create the space that speaks to them. Keep in mind for clients with multiple properties, their idea of  what “home” looks like may change by locale. For example, Drew designed a ski chalet for a family with neutrals and layers of texture while their main home consists of bold pattern and color.

2. Follow Your Gut in Design

If you love a certain object, pattern or color, stick with it. No matter how bold or quirky it may be, don’t be afraid to follow your gut,  because the things we are drawn to are often what bring us happiness. So don’t be afraid to mix and match those clashing patterns and just have confidence that it will work!

3. Consider all Perspectives

When designing a space be sure to consider the sight lines when envisioning how someone will live in it. Think about how each space is inviting you to the next and what these traffic patterns will look like. Test out the places to sit in each room to in order to really experience the interior from different perspectives.
