28 Aug Report Back: NY Now Summer 2019

Our Design Assistant, Julie Eck, explored NY NOW’s summer market this August. From home and lifestyle products, to gifts and fashion, to furniture and kitchenware, this show featured a myriad of beautifully designed products and vignettes.

Check out our top 3 trends from NY NOW below!

 1. Fun House

Whether creating visual contrast or tricking the eye, we saw a lot of new products that created an illusion effect through the playful use of mirrors and vibrant color. One of our favorites, Allison Eden’s booth, was full of fun design ranging from mirrored finishes to amorphous shapes and funky color that boasted a youthful feel.

2. Design Message

Women’s empowerment was another key theme. From bold & encouraging quotes to more deeply rooted graphics, these designs paid tribute to women in creative ways. Black Artist + Designers Guild, one of the IFDA Selects for Innovative Booth Design, created a booth that celebrates Black excellence and culture in design featuring women on decorative pillows & artwork surrounded by stunning ethnic-inspired decor.

3. Sculptural Lighting

We love how lighting is serving two purposes, doubling as both a stunning piece of art AND of course as a way to brighten up a space. Tightrope’s hanging pendants, an IFDA Select for Sustainability, featured an unusual hand blown glass shape in a gorgeous ombré amethyst purple.
